Making Time Fun Summertime Airplane Pool Party This Weekend! (Important Info)

After what seemed like 25 straight days of rain this month - we are super excited to send this e-mail about our first official fun event of the summer! THE MAKING TIME AIRPLANE POOL PARTY happening this Saturday June 27th. I think we picked the best possible day, as the first official weekend of summer rolls in with sunny clear skies all day with a high of 85 degrees! Summer is finally here !!!!!!!

We sent out a few e-mails and dropped some information here and there to get you ready. This following e-mail contains all of the information you need to know about the party happening this weekend at the "Flying W Airport and Resort". Get familiar and read up as this will most likely become a frequent "venue" for many events and shows to come. THERE IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PERTAINING TO TRANSPORTATION FOR THIS EVENT - PLEASE READ IT BELOW!

For those who have no idea what we are talking about : POPPED! Music Festival's Alexis Rosenzweig , Making Time's Dave P and us (R5) got together to come up with an idea for a Summer Concert Series in the Philadelphia Area. Being that nothing too creative and fun can happen in the city these days, we found an the weirdest and potentially most fun magical property in Medford, NJ (only 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia in beautiful farmland country). The Flying W Airport Resort, built in the 60’s is an actual private small "airport" that features an airplane-shaped swimming pool, bar & restaurant, a motel with 28 rooms, tiki bars, BBQ area, and full service private airport with airplane and helicopter rides!

To start it off, we are decided to just have a "pool party". No bands with giant production, no crazy international DJs. No stress. Just basically a really fun day and night for everyone by the pool . The entire Making Time roster will be DJing from afternoon into the evening. There won't be multiple floors or anything like that - just solid tunes from the 12+ DJs all day long. Expect lots of summer and pool appropriate music. There will be plenty of food on hand (they have a snack shack, bbq pits and a restaurant with air conditioning). The pool/resort features a few bars (inside and outside) serving alcohol for those who are 21 or older. There are volley ball courts, golf cart racing and what ever we buy at Toys R Us tonight.

In other words - it should be the best day and night ever!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING / THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT : Here is some information and instruction pertaining to transportation to and from the event. We are providing shuttle service to and from downtown Philadelphia (just below 2nd and Germantown Sts at that new giant outdoor courtyard known as the "piazza"). IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE A SHUTTLE BUS - WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE YOUR PICK UP & DROP OFF UNLESS YOU RSVP IN ADVANCE TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS : MakingTimeBus@gmail.com . Just send an e-mail to that address with your name and how many people will be in your party. We need to plan in advance to know how many shuttles we need and how often they will be arriving. You will be guaranteed a ride back and forth if you RSVP in advance - so it's very important that you do so!

There is plenty of parking for those who want to drive in - There is a small fee (not exactly sure - $2/$3 per car) but please be aware that we have it on very good authority that the Medford Police Department will be "looking for drunk drivers" during and after the party. As one person wrote to us "the Medford Police would love for nothing more than to arrest a bunch of city kids coming into town". While we have no idea if that's entirely accurate - the Flying W Resort did inform us that the police will be out on the roads for this event, so if you plan on driving - PLEASE MAKE PLANS FOR A DESIGNATED DRIVER. We dont want to see you locked up !

A few more do's and dont's :
* You are responsible for bringing your own towel and "bathing suit". Please do not enter in the pool with boxers or bra/underwear. This is an actual real life pool that family's use. Let's pretend for one day that we are somewhat respectable.
* It's a good idea to bring cash. While there is an ATM on site - it's likely to run out of cash early on - so we encourage you to make plans to bring cash (for food and drinks) in advance
* Do not forget your ID if you plan on drinking. We will be ID'ing those who are 21+ that would like to drink alcohol during the party
* You are encouraged to bring stupid and weird pool toys from home. Seriously - please bring lots !
* Do not forget to bring your sunscreen. It will be clear skies all day - we dont need a bunch of burnt lobsters whining about their sun burn once the sun goes down

Here is most of the info which should answer all of your questions !!!!

*THIS* Saturday June 27th 2pm to 11pm
At The Flying W Airplane Resort (60 Fosertown Rd - Medford, NJ)
All Ages / 21+ To Drink / $12 / $17 w/ Philadelphia Shuttle (rsvp to MakingTimeBus@gmail.com)

THE MAKING TIME AIRPLANE POOL PARTY !
Featuring Sonic Ice Cream Sandwiches Served by Resident Cabana Boys:
Dave P / Mike Z / Dave Pak / Adam Sparkles / Rock Tits w/ Russ Alexander, Joel Flood Nez and Steve Vena & The Broadzilla DJs

Imagine this....you’re lying on an inflatable alligator raft floating in cool, clear blue waters, sipping a Margarita, basking in the warm rays of the summer sun, the sky is clear as far as the eye can see and you hear the sweet sounds of “Kids” by MGMT (you know that song you’ve heard at every Making Time for the past year) traveling through the hot summer air. Here comes the splash of a wave up against your feet as they dangle from the raft , you look up and....no....it’s not a cool ocean wave, but the waves from some jerk landing in a cannonball. Wait....you’re not at the Jersey Shore....you’re in Medford, New Jersey at the Flying W Pool and Resort (AKA...the Airplane Pool) at MAKING TIME!!! YES!!!

That’s right...we’re doing MAKING TIME in......NEW JERSEY. You all know New Jersey, right???? It’s actually our neighbor and it’s the home of so many great things such as Camden, one of the murder capitals of our country, discount liquor, Atlantic City, traffic, Mack and Mankos Pizza, jughandles, fat cats, Newark, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and so much more. Well on Saturday June 27th it will be the home of the next MAKING TIME and we are going to make New Jersey...did I mention it’s in NEW JERSEY....the raddest it’s ever been since Jersey tomatoes. Woah....that’s pretty f%#king rad.

YES....on Saturday June 27th, 2009 New Jersey becomes the surrogate home of MAKING TIME. Don’t miss your chance to become a part of New Jersey history and be one of the first people to say you experienced MAKING TIME in....New Jersey, and...during the day, and....at a pool. Just think...you finally get to see each other in the daylight ! Get rad, get stoked and party til you can’t drive back to Philly anymore because this could be one of the raddest Making Time parties ever. Since you probably won’t be able to drive home we are providing roundtrip shuttle buses every half hour from the free parking lot at the Piazza at Schmidt’s on 2nd and Germantown starting at 1:30pm and to ensure that you can’t drive home there will be lots of bars and lots of totally rad sounds provided by your resident MAKING TIME Cabana Boys (And if you feel like trying to sober up for the drive home there will be burgers, dogs and veggie friendly grilling options available all day).

So...Philadelphia...let’s freakout like we’ve never freaked out before in New Jersey in our entire lives on Saturday June 27th, 2009 at MAKING TIME at the Flying W Pool and Resort (aka...the Airplane Pool) in Medford, NJ!!! This will surely be the most major rager of the summer!!!

See you at the pool !

Paint It Black Show Moved To Broad St Ministries

Hellos –
Due to a event conflict at The First Unitarian Church - the scheduled PAINT IT BLACK show for Friday June 12th has been MOVED to Broad Street Ministries – located at 315 S Broad Street (on Broad Street between Pine and Spruce – right next to University of The Arts). For those unfamiliar with Philadelphia it’s about a 10 minute walk between the two locations.

All previously purchased tickets for The First Unitarian Church will be honored. That means if you bought a ticket you do not have to do anything different (aside form showing up to the new location) as your ticket will be accepted for entry. The show remains at the same time, with the same price, bands, lineup, our usual live sound system, free 7” etc. Nothing has changed except for the venue.

There are a small handful of tickets remaining as of this evening. We encourage you to purchase them ASAP as we will not be releasing any more tickets once it sells out (which it’s very close to)

Have any questions – get in touch….
Thanks!

New R5 Box Office At AKA Music - Save $2 On All Tickets

In the words of our home girl Aliyah :

And if at first you don’t succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
You can dust it off and try again, try again

Some of you may remember the beginning of 2008. A year full of promise and a new box office location at one of our favorite record stores - AKA Music. AKA was excited to have us and we were excited to have them.

Then our box office system (aka shitty laptop) went crazy and broke every 3 minutes causing frustrated customers and frustrated record store employees. When it became clear that the staff was focusing more time on our tickets rather than their actual jobs at the record store - we graciously changed our ticketing system and moved across the block to our friend Phil's clothing store.

We had zero problem with the new system. Hooray! All was well once again in the world. Oops - not so fast, unfortunately Phil decided to pull the plug on his store a few days ago and we were box officeless once again. Just like last year.

Thankfully with the new and much easier (and less time consuming) box office system in place, much like The Prodigal Son, AKA is welcoming us back. They even slaughtered their fattest calf for us.

To celebrate our fine feast of veal - we are giving our lovely supporters of R5 Productions - $2 off EVERY TICKET on opening day - Wednesday January 14th. Please note that this is only for purchases at AKA - online tickets do not receive a discount)

Visit the new R5 Box Office starting Wednesday January 14th at :
AKA MUSIC
27 N 2nd Street
Old City section of Philadelphia

Hours :
Monday-Thursday 11-8
Friday-Saturday 11-9
Sunday 11-6

Amebix Show Moved To The Trocadero !

So one of the most important bands in Punk Rock History is coming to town. Our main dudes Tony Pointless and Greg Daly somehow worked this out for these guys to reunite and do a quick US tour. Impressive!

Since we can not guarantee the date that Starlight will be able to open their doors - we are taking no chances. (AKA This is a show we can not fuck up)

To make sure this epic show will go down in Philly - we have moved the show to The Trocadero Theater. We cant risk it folks. If you have already purchased a ticket you need not do anything. Your ticket whether its will call or a hard ticket will be honored at the Trocadero.

The Trocadero was kind enough to host the show, but have to have it finish earlier as they have another event later that evening. To ensure that the bands get to play their full sets we are starting it earlier than the original scheduled time. Doors will now be opening at 3pm (rather than 5pm)

The show is still $15, still all ages to get in, still 21+ to drink. Tickets will still be able at our box office and well as online at R5productions.com

The only thing changing (aside from the venue - duh) is the start time. All of the bands are still playing.

Saturday January 31st 3:00pm *note new start time*

Punk Rock Flea Market Sells Out! New Location & Date

Let the shit talk begin!

As you know The Punk Rock Flea Market was canceled on December 20th due to licensing issues at The Starlight Ballroom. They (Starlight) screwed up some of their arrangements on their licensing agreement with the city and now have to have a hearing/meeting to re-open. Unfortunately for them (and us) this happened over the holiday break - when city officials weren't scheduling any meetings and appointments. They just began to address the situation this week.

We then found a new hall that was willing to host a Flea Market in mid-January. All is well! Great times! Hooray! But then when we told them it was a "Punk Rock" flea market - the suddenly lost all interest and told us they could not host an event like that. Once again, the punks lose.

Back to square one. Believe it or not - it's really hard to find a giant room that is completely open where you can fit 100+ tables , a couple thousand people that has food, a bar and enough bathrooms in center city. Well that's not entirely true. There are plenty of rooms that can do that - problem is they cost upwards of ten thousand dollars. That does not make too much sense for us to host a fund-raiser in such an expensive room.

That's when one of the sellers and one of my dearest friends, Stacie George suggested we use Electric Factory. It's bigger than Starlight, has more bathrooms, has a bar, has food, has parking, it's only two blocks from the original location, it's in center city etc. There would be more room for vendors and attendees a like. When you "look at it on paper" - it's obviously a much more enjoyable and ideal location for everyone involved.

We are the first to admit it is a bit peculiar to host something called The Punk Rock Flea Market, which benefits R5 Productions at the Electric Factory (even if Fugazai did play their last two Philly shows here). After many discussions with friends, staff members and fellow sellers - we all came to the conclusion that this was the best idea and location and to go through with the plan. Shortly thereafter, Stacie called me and gave us some great news. In a gesture of professional friendship, Electric Factory extended out an olive branch and decided that they would not charge us a rental fee for the room. We would only have to pay the individual staff members.

GREAT SUCCESS! AWESOME! So punks (and myself) – you can all goto bed resting easy knowing that your hard earned $3 is not going to support "The Man" =) We now have a bigger and better location for this winter's flea market. With the larger location we can now sell some additional tables. Those tables will not be sold UNTIL next Wednesday January 14th.

If you already had an existing table reservation - you are all set now. You need not do anything. All of your info will be carried over to the Flea Market. All will remain the same. However if you would want a refund, we are glad to refund you the full amount + all fees. Just send an e-mail to sean at r5productions dot com with your confirmation # and name it was ordered under. You have till Tuesday January 13th to ask for your refund. Any refund requests after Tuesday January 13th will be denied.

Based on the amount of refunds that are issued - we will then open the available flea market tables to the public starting at 9am on Wednesday morning. First come - first serve. We cannot hold tables for you. Sorry! This is the biggest and most complicated event (aka mess) that we produce. Keeping track of 100+ tables in incredibly hard. We hope you understand.

So here are the details....Please note that there is a "rain date", not if it rains (as the flea market is inside - duh) but if for some reason God decides the bless our city with a Philadelphia Eagles Superbowl appearance. If the Eagles make the Superbowl we will postpone the fleamarket to the following weekend. Note the flea market will be ending at 4:30 - leaving you plenty of time to make the 7:00pm kickoff for the Superbowl (ps who cares if the eagles aren't in it)

Jimmy Fallon & The Roots In Our New Venue !

As you have probably heard by now, there is a new small 125-150 person venue/bar up in Fishtown by the name of KungFu Necktie. They spent a ton of money on the PA and it sounds AMAZING. It's like if Johnny Brendas (both upstairs and downstairs) had a baby with The Khyber. Seriously.

We are excited about it because now we can do a lot more local shows and shows for new touring bands that we think are great. Over the next few months we are going to be adding more and more shows here from touring bands who we think are great but that people quite haven't caught onto yet.

Our initial lineup looks a little something like this :

Thu Jan 15th - The Soft Pack (formerly known as The Muslims)
Wed Jan 21st - Fucked Up w/ Pissed Jeans
Sun Feb 8th - The Pains of Being Pure At Heart / Brown Recluse Sings
Mon Feb 23rd - Pomegranates
Sun Mar 8th - Maserati

We'll have a bunch of new shows there over the next few weeks so stay tuned. Including some possible all ages matinees !

Ohh yeah and here is Jimmy Fallon introducing The Roots at Kung Fu Necktie

Upstairs DJs : A Rock Tits Event with Joel / Nez & Steve Vena

A 6 1/2 hr everything goes open bar with EIGHT (yes 8) different bars to get drinks from. Including "quick" sparks and beer stations set up throughout the club (so you can quickly grab a few beers while traveling between the floors.) On top of that we have about 20 cases of champagne in plastic flutes ready to go at midnight so you can get ready to have that regrettable kiss when the countdown ends. If that wasn't enough we have three floors of DJs spinning rock, punk, old and new dance classics, electro, techno, and whatever else is fun. Plus lots of balloons, confetti, crazy visuals (with 4 screens) and one thousand dollars worth of stupid toys and novelties from south philly party stores to play with and throw at people when the ball drops

There will be enough party, fun and booze for everyone! We want everyone to have a great fun time without having to pay the typical crazy NYE drink and cover prices or be subjected to drink the worlds weirdest and worst drinks just because they are free. Our party goes much later than all of the others (laugh at your friends when they complain about having to go home at 2am after spending a $30 cover charge and $28 for four lagers)

NYE should be a special time, a time to start new year off right while getting wild and crazy. Don't spend it doing the same old typical stuff that you end up doing every Wednesday with a bunch of civilians. Get dressed up, call up your friends, come early, drink lots, meet new people, kiss strangers and have the time of your life! And don't stop because the fun keeps on going on and on and on and on w/ the annual two street celebration on new years day!

THIS IS THE MOST FUN TWO DAYS OF THE YEAR - YOU ONLY GET ONE SHOT, DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY AND SPEND THE REST YEAR REGRETTING YOUR NEW YEARS DECISION !

It's a good idea to get advance tickets now/soon because they are ten dollars cheaper up until Xmas Eve (which includes the all night open bar from 9pm to 3:30am). We are letting in 150 less people compared to last year (more room and drinks for you!) so that means we'll likely sell out even earlier in the evening. You can purchase tickets online right now by visiting the following link (click the tickets) :
