Hellos –
Our fall continues to get crazier and crazier. The shows keep on piling up and it looks like it’s going to be our best one ever. To keep things interesting we’re even going to add a brand new venue to the mix ..

Sometime soon we’ll be opening up the BOOT & SADDLE, our new smaller capacity venue on Broad & Ellsworth Sts. We are super excited to be doing shows in South Philly on a regular basis and from all the rumors and talk that we have been hearing over the past year, it seems lots of other people are too! We’ll have more official details to announce over the next few weeks, so keep reading the newsletters. For now we are just announcing three of the shows on the calendar. It should give you a good idea of the vibe we are shooting for (so no, we will not be a country music bar).

Saturday September 14th we welcome the brooding, majestic, dark cinematic post rock of Portland’s GRAILS. The following Monday Sept 16th we are excited to bring LIGHTNING DUSTa “minimal pop” side project from BLACK MOUNTAIN members Amber Webber and Joshua Wells to town. On Friday September 20th WXPN welcomes singer/songwriter LAURA VEIRS.

So yeah. New venue. Lot’s more to come. Get excited! Speaking of South Philly we are also involved in the newly re-opened DOLPHIN TAVERN and we have a bunch of after parties planned for the summer and fall. The first one is coming up Wednesday July 10th w/ members of BELLE & SEBASTIAN spinning soul, funk and rock records after their show that same evening at The Mann Music Center. We have lots more of these coming up. Should be fun!

We are so excited to finally be able to announce the Philadelphia debut of THE JULIE RUIN, featuring Kathleen Hanna and Kathi Wilcox of BIKKINI KILL! Double bonus : Philadelphia’s own SWEARIN’ will open the show! You are not allowed to miss the one, Thursday September 5th at Union Transfer. Tickets go on sale this Friday!

Two days later on Saturday September 7th THE DEAR HUNTER aka Casey Crescenzo from The Receiving End of Sirens will play a seated show with a string quartet. He’s only doing 7 of these shows in the US. Tickets also on sale Friday.

We added our final show to the our free summer concert series at Morgans Pier. TOBACCO (from BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW) will get super weird and woozy on August 14th. Other free show guests include : PISSED JEANS, PREFUSE-73, WORK DRUGS, TED LEO, WOODS, JC BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND and lots more! Check out our full schedule online.

From free to almost free. Radio 104.5 is hosting NYC duo MS MR (pronounced miss mister) at The First Unitarian Church and they made tickets only a $1.04. It’s going down September 19th. Tickets on-sale this Friday.

It’s been awhile since we have held a seated show in the Sanctuary of The First Unitarian Church. On Satuday September 14th we welcome singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi aka KISHI BASHI. If there ever was a perfect room for him to play, this would be it. We expect a sellout, so get your tickets sooner vs later.

We also added a heap of shows at Johnny Brendas. The super hyped UK buzz band PALMA VIOLETS return on Saturday September 27th for what will be a for sure sold out show (so get your tix!). Don’t sleep on the Italian indie pop soul (yes that’s a thing) of PORCELAIN RAFT on September 6th. PURE BATHING CULTURE just recently opened up for Father John Misty and will return to JBs to headline their own show August 27th. The odd ball rock of NY’s DARWIN DEEZ makes a stop at JBs on September 25th. Finally, THE PAPER KITES a folk band from Melbourne, Australia will be at JBs on November 11th. We expect big things from them. Jump on the bandwagon early.
