SAFE MIND

Safe Mind — the collaborative project of Augustus Muller and Cooper B. Handy — release their debut single “6’ Pole” and announce an October tour. Muller is one half of the beloved electronic duo Boy Harsher, a cornerstone in the contemporary goth and darkwave scene. Handy is an underground sensation, making a name for himself with his left field approach to beatmaking through his solo persona LUCY and various recording projects (The TaxidermistClub Casualties). Featuring club-ready bass, punchy drum beats, and post-punk guitar lines alongside Handy’s singular voice, “6’ Pole” introduces us to the duo’s playful pop sound.

In 2020, Muller approached Handy to collaborate on a track for Boy Harsher’s album, The Runner (Original Soundtrack), and the result was the anthemic album standout “Autonomy.” Handy’s loose take on songwriting proved an unlikely match with Muller’s neurotic attention to detail and production experience. Handy and Muller took note of their chemistry and continued to casually work on music over the next few years. As the tracks started to accumulate, they acknowledged a shared emphasis on honesty and innocence in the songs they were making and Safe Mind was born.

Next month, Safe Mind will make their live debut, embarking on a brief tour and previewing new music.

VOID VISION

VOID VISION is the electronic solo project of Philadelphia-based musician, Shari Vari. It began as a duo with Hayden Payne (Phase Fatale / Bite Records) and formed around 2009 when the minimal synth and coldwave genres were undergoing a great revival and rebirth thanks to labels such as Wierd Records and Minimal Wave among others. After frequenting the infamous weekly Wierd Records parties in NY and becoming entwined in the culture, VOID VISION took the stage and quickly became known for their live performances and released their first single ‘In Twenty Years’ on Blind Prophet Records. After the release of a split lp and various tracks for tapes and compilations, Void Vision’s debut album, ‘Sub Rosa’ was released on Mannequin Records (based out of Berlin) to much acclaim, and sold out of multiple pressings.
The oft melancholic-yet-danceable tracks are dominated by singer Shari Vari’s strong voice and an array of ancient sounding synthesizers and drum machines which are occasionally accented by the addition of cinematic strings. The songs are lush and dynamic in range and structure, making references to the last 40 years of electronic music while retaining a strong sense of individuality. There is a certain humanness and intimacy in the music that is hard to come by in this age of disposable social-media-influenced artistic content.

Void Vision continues to tour and is working on new material.

CHEVROLET PILE

Hailing from Malcolm Nebraska, population 450, Chevrolet Pile was born into a family country band that he has fronted since the age of 3.

Living most of his life as a transient weed farm noiser, Chevy has settled down in Philadelphia, where he writes from experience, love, and loin blending wicked looney soundscapes with twangin virtuoso and a deep Country croon. Forging a crunchy western path to a wonky tonk saloon long lost in the dancing mirage over the decaying highway.

Chevrolet pile stole the gel pen from the animator of the cartoons in your wet dreams and strung his guitar with its glittering ink.

Drunken motors jerk ribbon from the merry melodies tape deep in your libido as the drool washes paper from your unfurled tongue.
